The hazard with valves too tight is the valve may not fully close, which can overheat it if it gets bad enough (and it's sometimes too late to correct when the symptoms make themselves apparent, without major engine work). These prices are insane…don’t get me wrong there is some labor involved but $700+ to pull the fairly easily accessible valve covers is crazy. Figure ~4hrs tops to do this if you’re taking your time. I could probably do it in two hours as I’ve done a couple Honda valve jobs.

If your front valve cover gasket is leaking, I would also recommend checking/replacing the PCV valve, which is mounted entirely to the front valve cover.
