DayZ has only gotten better and better. It is much more fun to play now than it was a few years ago, and much better than the DayZ mod. My only issue is that official servers often have cheaters, which suck since there are literally no active community servers in my country and my ping sucks trying to connect anywhere else.In dayZ it only takes one oversight to lose everything, from your whole base to the character you’ve survived 200 hours on or the gun you are carrying because you dropped it in some grass on accident. Death is the main factor of the game, a lot of PVP community servers wipe every two weeks and it’s hard to find stuff on those servers.

The servers got overwhelmed so it's not necessarily that it got wiped, least not wiped intentionally but that it simply crashed and you can't access it. Could also be that they patched something needing a full reset due to incompatible saves. I can access it, it's just reset to day one,..... after 2 real time days. progress gone, like wth. #4 ...
