Actually, trying to diagnose what went wrong with Ranger: D&D 3e still really loved limited uses of abilities, like how even cantrips were single-use. Smite Evil on the Paladin is probably the worst offender. You get a single use per day at level 1, and it applies to a single attack.

My guess would be the best with AC would be the Ranger, with Beastmaster archetype. The companion gets the bonus of the hunter edge, Beastmaster gives access to the feats earlier than ranger (same time as Druid) and you have at least 2 companions for different situation (for exemple a mount and another one for indoor situations).Basically adding a focus by building around the Rogue Dedication made it feel awesome, and lots of Ranger feats have great synergy with Sneak Attack especially. If Paizo doesn't have a Slayer archetype in mind already, it has huge potential to come about down the line. This experience also made me quite a fan of the 2E multiclassing system.

Ranger is nice, but I think investigator architype is a hat on a hat. Pursue a lead(+1) and hunt prey(+2) are both circumstance bonuses, so the dedication is a bit of a down grade. The architype feats just look like they clash, or are weaker than the ranger choices. The problem with builds like that is the rest of the party.Rangers can do great! I think I've developed a fun ranged build combining the Monastic Archer Stance and Ranger archetype, creating a highly maneuverable and versatile ranged controller. Now, I'm of the opinion that Free Archetype Variant is the best way to play Pathfinder 2e, so I'll be using that for the main build, but I will be including perfectly viable options ...Or swaggering initiative makes it easier to go first. Honestly swashbuckler doesnt really gain any benefit for being dualwield, everything they can do with two weapons they can do easier with 1. You say ranger and swashbuckler but trained assassin screams rogue with assassin dedication to me, and instead of clawed catfolk it screams hunting ...However the other is a reach build that focuses on putting snares in the square infront of them and holding the choke point. The reach ranger can really work well with a (i'm sorry) flickmace if a free hand is needed to place traps or bigger reach weapon like a Halberd (or something with the shove trait) if a free hand isn't required.At 1st level, that's 3d6+6 damage (average of 16.5) or 6d6+12 on a crit (Hydraulic Push crits add 3 damage dice instead of doubling damage dealt).
