Thankfully, RIvian is shifting from fulfilling pre-orders at limited mfg capacity to fulfilling customer orders on-demand. This is no different than Tesla having cars you could buy within 1-2 months - recall that after the M3, MY, etc launched, there was a huge backlog. Once that was cleared, it was FIFO for cars made. This is no different.
