I enabled steam input on my pc, then had to launch ffxiv on steam deck (not xivlauncher, that did not update settings), it updated settings and controller works using xivlauncher now. do not even need to go into game when updating settings, just launching the ffxiv launcher will fix it. edit: still not working right, but at least works better ...
