Driving his late-model Ferrari, a heavily drunk Cooke and the young, self-described aspiring model went to the Motel Hacienda in L.A.’s gritty south central neighborhood.Cooke had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 at the time of his demise - double the amount for legal intoxication. Cooke's money and credit cards were missing and Boyer didn't have them. Since DNA testing was still a long way off, authorities completed no physical exams on Boyer to look for evidence of what took place.

His first marriage was to singer and dancer Dolores Elizabeth Milligan Cook, who was killed in a car accident in 1959. Although he and Dolores were divorced at the time, Cooke paid for his ex-wife's funeral.
