If you build about 500m-1km away, there shouldn't be any issues and it's not a distance that is far enough to cause you a trememdous amount of wasted time anyways. I usually always build closer to a town than a Trader, but within 2km of the nearest Trader if possible. I prefer an easily accessible loot location, over an easy loot drop off.

Posted December 3, 2018. I want to go more of a barter build, after the traders are improved. It would be cool if you could play a large some of money to have them refresh their stock, or at least have it refresh faster. Like an investment in new goods. Discuss how I am right.

It is not possible unless your installation is borked or you attempted to use one of your old maps from an older alpha.... It can also happen if you use a third-party map generator and by chance fail to have a trader spawn in the forest biome as required by the starter quest. What I look for early to mid game are electricity / workstation / trap / vehicle books and parts and he has all of that, including a higher chance for crucibles and vehicle parts.
